Trading teams can save time and reduce potential errors by keeping all activity on one platform - staging orders, sending order details, responding to RFQs, and confirming orders.

Today the current RFQ process is lengthy, with multiple opportunities for error along the way. Putting out an RFQ, waiting, and gathering responses is often done through multiple platforms, phone, and email. With FactSet’s latest Portware Chat RFQ integration with Symphony, this workflow is dramatically simplified by bringing the experience together on one platform.

Factset Portware

With the Portware integration, traders can:

  1. Modify workflows and use Symphony to quickly send out an RFQ to multiple parties
  2. Reduce potential errors by communicating electronically through Symphony
  3. Enable brokers to respond in the same place, rather than via phone or email, and not have to manually enter values into a form or external system

Mary, a trader, can automatically post RFQs through Portware to Symphony chats. Brokers will get a financial object that they can respond to through an integrated Portware form. All proposals are sent privately back to Mary in a curated feed. This way, she can identify and select which price she wants to accept, knowing that all details are accurate and secure.

Once a price is confirmed by both Mary and her selected broker, the necessary trade information is sent outside of Symphony to Portware to be executed. After the trade is executed, trade confirmations can be sent via Symphony in real time.

By running the full RFQ workflow through a single platform, traders and brokers reduce potential errors and stay more organized.

8553056305 Johan Sandersson, VP, Principal Product Manager of FactSet, and David Landisman, Product Manager at Portware, discuss their new Portware Chat RFQ integration with Symphony at Symphony Innovate 2017. Streamline this process with a CRM/Symphony integration to send and receive updates directly from chat.

For sales and research teams, updating information in a customer relationship management, or CRM, tool can be time-consuming. Streamline this process with a CRM/Symphony integration to send and receive updates directly from chat. For example, with Salesforce, a common CRM tool, you can:

  • Use a bot to update client information within Salesforce
  • Receive real-time account status updates from a bot
  • View notifications regarding status changes or approvals in Salesforce

Salesforce

If you use Salesforce as your CRM solution, install the integration in your Symphony Market today. If you use a different CRM or don't see this integration, contact your Symphony representative for additional information.

MiFID II was introduced to increase transparency of markets, lower market data costs, improve execution, and more. It will also entirely change the way financial institutions conduct business. Symphony has features like timestamp granularity, which will show you who has read your messages and when, as well as content export, which allows you to export all conversation history. These features will help you maintain compliance with MiFID II.

Trading teams can leverage Symphony in several ways:

  • Rather than using a series of phone conversations, a sales trader sends an embedded IOI form via Symphony message to a desk trader. This reduces fragmented conversations, risk of transcription error, and amount of time spent switching between phone and desktop.
  • The desk trader receives a notification via Symphony and can accept the IOI in real time. Once he does, a chat room is created and named with the Trade ID. This streamlines the process of receiving an IOI, taking action, and tracking progress.
  • As both parties negotiate a price, all conversation history is recorded and archived with timestamp granularity. This creates an audit trail and ensures accurate recording.
  • Conversation history can be exported to demonstrate best execution tactics. As an alternative, the room can send notices to dedicated compliance software for real-time monitoring of pre-trade negotiations. Having this data increases transperency of the transaction.

MiFID II

The flow above illustrates how an IOI can be negotiated and accepted by multiple parties while being tracked via Symphony.

For more information about how Symphony can facilitate MiFID II compliance, please contact your Symphony representative.

Curious how you can use technology to broaden your client reach? Or wondering how to translate your Symphony messages to another language in real time? At Symphony Innovate 2017, Google presented a Translate Bot that uses natural language processing to translate from one language to another.

Translating languages can be difficult and time-consuming. Google's text-to-speech technology is assisting Symphony users by automatically translating real-time messages from one language to another.

Anthony, who works in Sales in New York, services clients internationally. One of his clients, Jake, is located in Singapore and speaks Mandarin natively. Using the Google Translate Bot with Symphony, Anthony can type a message to his client Jake in English, and Jake can automatically translate that to Mandarin. Jake can also reply in Mandarin, and Anthony can receive this reply, quickly translating into English with the Google Translate Bot. This works for translating languages into any other language, and doesn’t require either party to go elsewhere to translate the message.

This is just one of the Google integrations that can help improve your communication. (787) 556-5109 Todd O’Hara of Google Cloud and Mike Scannell of Symphony discuss the future of technology, and how it's affecting businesses worldwide at Symphony Innovate 2017. A ton of content - news, updates, research, and other commentary - is shared all day long between counterparties, often creating information overload, a time consuming curation process, and a lack of knowledge of what’s valuable v. what’s not. The Symphony Idea Engine and autotagging (powered by Selerity) provides a better way to share and receive relevant content. Whether you’re in Sales and Trading, Portfolio Management, Research, or other teams, exchanging views and content is critical, and the Symphony Idea Engine enables a better workflow.

Matt, a Portfolio Manager, lives in an environment where he receives hundreds of emails, chats, messages, and content pieces daily. He needs to consume as much of this information as fast as possible to maintain an edge. Meanwhile, Josh, a sell-side Salestrader, spends hours researching and curating content for his client, Matt. With so much information flowing, however, Josh’s content often gets lost, and Matt misses critical, time-sensitive information.

With Symphony, Matt can chat with his sell-side counterparts in real time via persistent chat rooms. Matt and Josh also leverage signals using a set of common #hashtags and $cashtags identified by their buy- and sell-side counterparts for content organization. This way, Matt can look at a tag like #earnings when he gets into the office to quickly see all research and content relevant to him around the latest earnings information.

Matt accelerates content curation even further with the Symphony Idea Engine, which allows him to quickly select the topics he’s interested in, as well as the specific individuals he wants updates from. This week, he wants updates from Josh around technology.

Idea Engine

Josh gets a notification about Matt’s updated preferences and is now prompted to send over his latest content. Josh can save even more time by autotagging his messages, which automatically adds specific tags based on his content. This way, Josh’s message is immediately discoverable in Matt’s signals feed rather than just a message.

Importantly for Matt, as a Portfolio Manager, he now has a curated list of messages automatically organized by topic, so he can dive into the topics that matter most. Whether it’s earnings, or start of day information, he can focus his attention on deepening insights and spend less time on curating the waves of content he receives. His Signals feed aggregates all internal and external chats based on the topics that he defines.

With the Idea Engine and autotagging, buy- and sell-side users can streamline critical workflows. The time-consuming work of sorting through chats and emails in order to find the relevant content is greatly reduced, while content senders receive valuable feedback on what their counterparts are interested in.

Buy- and sell-side firms are collaborating to make IOI workflows better. Using an IOI bot, a user can quickly share desired inventory and automatically route this to FIX messages.

Exchanging IOIs between counterparties can be time-consuming. Manual entries with antiquated tools can delay and even prevent trades. Firms are automating this workflow in Symphony by developing IOI bots that route to FIX messages.

use case IOI bot

  1. Mike, a Portfolio Manager, wants to buy 25,000 shares of Google so he is going to send out an IOI.
  2. To initiate the process, he chats his firm’s IOI Bot on Symphony. He sends the message “B 25K GOOGL.OQ” (“B” for buy + 25,000 shares + the ticker).
  3. To keep it secure, the IOI Bot requests a mobile authentication code, and Mike enters the details. Mike’s IOI is then routed as a FIX message so counterparts can respond quickly.

With bots, IOIs reach the market faster and they’re searchable. This improves discoverability and allows users to execute quickly!
